Climate analytics in real estate has largely focused on mitigation efforts such as decarbonization and retrofitting of assets. But it is equally important to emphasize adaptation in the form of relocation of assets to more resilient geographies. Climate analytics needs to be mainstreamed into the investment process by quantifying the financial impact of risks on insurance premiums, utility costs, property taxes, and other core costs and metrics of asset performance. At the same time, integrating climate trends with macroeconomic and societal drivers will give a confident picture of which locations will outperform in the future.
